NCTE Orbis Pictus Award
“Established by the National Council of Teachers of English in 1990, it rewards excellence in nonfiction writing for children. The name Orbis Pictus commemorates the book “Orbis Pictus—the World in Pictures” by Johannes Amos Comenius. Written in 1657, it is believed to be the first book actually written for children”. ~award website
