Electronic Journals available through Highwire Press
Individual journals covering nursing and other subjects. Note the "Free Back Issues" information for each journal. Most offer free full-text except for the most recent 12 months. You can search the entire site, or click on a specific journal title to search it. To browse the journal contents, click on the title, then the year and then the issue. To browse articles or journals by topic, click "Home", scroll down to the section labeled "Browse" then click "by topic". A few have "Free Trial Period" which allows access to all the issues, during the trial dates specified.
Nursing Databases
"CINAHL with Full-Text is the world's most comprehensive source of full-text nursing and allied health journals. It provides full-text of more than 520 journals, with coverage back to 1982. It offers Basic, Advanced or Visual Search methods.
To access, click the link above, then check the box for CINAHL and hit Continue.
Scroll down to "Product Specific Tutorials" and select one of the CINAHL Full-Text choices.
Click the link above then click on "Cochrane Library" in the alphabetical list.
Click on the link above. Next, click on the drop-down menu next to the words "Multiple Databases"
and select "Medical Sciences: ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health".
This database contains citations, abstracts,
and/or the full-text of articles on nursing and 70 other health fields,
taken from over 600 scholarly journals, trade publications,
reference works and popular magazines.
It also contains the complete text of over 10,000 dissertations.

Health Sciences: SAGE Full-Text
1982-present
To access: the link above will take you to the Alphabetical List of Databases.
Click on Health Sciences.
You'll see a second list; check the box next to "Health Sciences",
then click "Continue to Search" at the top of the page.
Health Sciences includes the full-text of 26 scholarly journals
published by Sage and participating societies,
totaling over 7,000 articles on nursing, allied health
and many other health-related disciplines.

Health Reference Center Academic
1980 - present
To access: Click on the link above, then on "Health Reference Center Academic"
in the alphabetical list. Then, in the next list, check the box for Health Reference Center and hit "Continue" at the top.
Full-text articles, images and videos from nursing medical and allied health journals, as well as consumer health magazines, newsletters, pamphlets, newspaper articles, topic overviews and reference books.

PubMed is the free digital archives of biomedical and life sciences journal literature, from the U.S. National Institues of Health. Coverage is from the late 1800s to the present. It contains citations and abstracts for millions of articles, with some full-text. To find full-text articles, click on "Limits" then check the box for "Free Full-Text". Enter your search term in the box at the top and click "go". Or, use PubMed Central, described below.
PubMed Central: Subset of PubMed that contains half a million articles, all in full-text.
Medline
(Through FirstSearch) 1965—present
Click on the link above, then click on the drop-down menu next to “Select a Topic or Database”. Scroll almost to the bottom until you see “Medline”, and click on it.
Part of the PubMed database. Includes the citations and abstracts of thousands of articles from all areas of medicine, including nursing, dentistry and veterinary, as well as nutrition, toxicology, pathology, psychiatry and health services administration.
Relemed Search Engine: Searches Medline and ranks results by relevancy.
BioMed Central
This database contains full-text articles from over 175 biomedical, peer-reviewed journals. A good scholarly database, but it has less focus on nursing than databases mentioned at the top of the page.
