Finding Full-Text Flowchart.pdf
1. If there is no full-text link under the citation, click on Link Source(you may also see a blue-green circular icon or the words “Get Article”). NOTE: If you are off-campus, you must enter a username and password. Call 785-628-5283 to get this information.
Link Source searches our other databases for the full-text of the article. If the article is found, a link or the article itself will open in a new window. If it is not found, you’ll see “There were no results to display”.
2. If it is NOT found, check the Online Catalog for a print or microfilm copy:
Enter the name of the Journal (not the name of the article)
Select “journal title keyword” from the menu, and hit Search
Click on the name of the journal in the results page (if it is found)
Check the holdings against the date of your article, to see if we have the issue your article appears in.
Write down the Call Number (underlined in blue) and use it to locate the journal in the periodicals area (if the journal is dated 1994 to the present), or on Microfilm. If the journal is pre-1994, ask a librarian or staff member for help in locating it.
3. If we do not own the article in print, AND you live on-campus or in the Hays area, you can request it through InterLibrary Loan (ILL).
(See below if you live outside Hays).
At the bottom of the page, click on InterLibrary Loan Request.
Click on Periodicals for an article request.
Fill out the form and hit submit.
4. If you live outside of the Hays area, you can request the article through Distance Services.
At the bottom of the page, click on Receiving Services
Scroll to the bottom of the page. If this is your first time requesting materials through Distance Services, click on Statement of Responsibility.
Next, click on Distance Services Periodical Request, fill out the form and submit.
An ILL or Distance Services request for an article can take a day or two, OR it might take a couple of weeks, depending on the article and where it can be found. Many articles can be sent to you electronically; you will receive an e-mail with a PIN number and a link to access the article. If the article has to be printed and mailed, it will take longer, so plan accordingly. NOTE: If your paper is due in two or three days, an ILL/Distance services request is not a good option.
